WOVEN FABRICS

Woven fabrics are a timeless choice for upholstered furniture, offering everything from fine, smooth finishes to more tactile textures. Created by interlacing yarns, these fabrics have a distinctive structure and character, making them a versatile option for both classic and contemporary interiors.

Many of our woven fabrics are heavy-duty, commercial-grade options, making them particularly well suited to furniture designed for everyday family living.

Why choose a woven fabric?

Woven fabrics are wonderfully versatile and work beautifully across upholstered beds, bedheads, daybeds, ottomans and toy boxes.

With a variety of colours, compositions, there's a woven fabric to suit almost every interior.

Our individual fabric listings include application and performance information to help you select the right option for your furniture.

CHECKS | STRIPES | CHEVRON FABRICS

Checks, stripes and chevron fabrics bring pattern, structure and personality to upholstered furniture. From traditional gingham and tailored pinstripes to bold checks, herringbone and distinctive zigzag designs, these fabrics offer a wonderful way to introduce colour and visual interest.

Pattern can completely change the character of a piece of furniture. Fine stripes create a subtle, tailored finish, larger checks make more of a statement, while chevron and geometric patterns introduce movement and contemporary appeal.

A little pattern goes a long way.

When selecting a patterned fabric, consider the scale of the pattern and how it will sit across the shape of your furniture. Our team can help you explore the possibilities and ensure your chosen fabric works beautifully with your design.

Whether soft and understated or vibrant and statement-making, these fabrics transform upholstered furniture into a beautiful design feature.

Create Something Distinctive

Our collection celebrates the art of pattern, making it easy to create interiors that feel layered, considered and uniquely yours. Mix classic prints with contemporary designs, introduce a pop of colour or let a statement fabric take centre stage. Perfect for upholstered beds, bedheads and occasional furniture, printed fabrics offer endless possibilities for creating spaces full of character, charm and timeless appeal.

LUXURY FABRICS

For those looking for something a little more tactile, our Luxury Fabric collection brings together sumptuous velvets, beautifully textured wool blends, plush fabrics and decorative quilted finishes.

Each offers a different look and feel. Velvets create a soft, smooth surface with beautiful colour depth and a subtle sheen. Wool blends introduce natural texture and warmth, while plush fabrics offer a softer feel. Quilted fabrics add dimension and distinctive detailing to upholstered furniture.

Designed to be seen and touched.

These fabrics are particularly beautiful on upholstered beds, statement bedheads, daybeds and occasional furniture, where their texture and character can create something special in your home.

Luxury doesn't mean sacrificing practicality. Many of our fabrics are heavy-duty, commercial-grade fabrics, although performance and care requirements vary between individual fabrics.

Frequently Asked Questions - Fabric Library

1. Can I choose any fabric from the Fabric Library for my upholstered furniture?

Our Fabric Library features a carefully curated selection of upholstery fabrics suitable for creating beautiful, individual pieces of furniture. Most fabrics can be used across our upholstered furniture collection, although suitability may vary depending on the furniture design, fabric construction, width and pattern repeat.

If you have a particular fabric in mind, we're always happy to help confirm its suitability for your chosen piece.

2. Can I order fabric samples before purchasing my furniture?

Absolutely. We always recommend ordering fabric samples before making your final decision. Seeing a fabric in person allows you to appreciate its true colour, texture and finish, and consider how it will look within your home.

Simply browse our Fabric Library, select your preferred fabrics and order samples online. We can also help you narrow down your selection if you're unsure where to start.

3. Can I use my own fabric for Lilly & Lolly furniture?

Yes, we can accommodate customer-supplied fabrics on selected furniture designs. If you've found a particular fabric from another supplier or have something special in mind, please contact us before ordering.

We'll be happy to discuss the fabric's suitability, the required meterage and any additional considerations for your chosen design.

4. What is the difference between woven, printed and luxury upholstery fabrics?

Each fabric construction offers a different look and feel.

Woven fabrics are created by interlacing yarns, resulting in beautiful textures and versatile finishes. Printed fabrics feature designs applied to a fabric base, making them ideal for introducing colour, pattern and personality. Luxury fabrics include more tactile and distinctive options such as velvets, wool blends and textured finishes.

The best choice ultimately depends on your preferred aesthetic, the intended use of the furniture and the overall look you wish to achieve.

5. Are your upholstery fabrics suitable for children and everyday family living?

Absolutely. We believe beautiful furniture should be made to be lived in.

We have carefully selected our upholstery fabrics with everyday family life in mind, and the recommended application and suitability of each fabric is specified within its individual listing. Many of our fabrics are heavy-duty, commercial-grade and approved for everyday use, offering both durability and beautiful design.

It's also worth remembering that upholstered beds and bedheads are not subject to the same level of wear and tear as sofas or heavily used seating. With the right fabric selection and a little care, your furniture will continue to look beautiful for years to come.

Our aim is to create timeless, upholstered pieces that are as practical as they are beautiful, and that your family can enjoy for many years.

6. How do I choose the right upholstery fabric?

Start by considering the overall look and feel you want to create. Think about colour, texture, pattern and how the furniture will be used.

We recommend ordering a selection of samples so you can compare them in your own space, alongside your existing furniture, flooring and bedding.

If you're still undecided, our team can help you explore different combinations and find a fabric that complements your interior.

7. Can I combine different fabrics or colours on one piece of furniture?

Absolutely. One of the benefits of custom upholstered furniture is the ability to introduce your own design details.

Depending on the furniture design, you may be able to combine fabrics, introduce contrasting piping or select a different fabric for particular elements of your piece.

Whether you prefer a subtle tonal combination or something a little more distinctive, we're happy to explore the possibilities with you.

8. Can I customise the piping and finishing details?

Yes. Many of our upholstered furniture designs offer the opportunity to personalise the finishing details, including piping and contrasting fabric combinations.

These smaller details can make a wonderful difference to the finished piece, allowing you to create something that feels considered and individual.

9. Are your upholstered furniture pieces made in Australia?

Yes. Our upholstered furniture is handcrafted in Sydney, Australia, by our experienced in-house upholstery team.

We take pride in local craftsmanship, thoughtful design and attention to detail. Each piece is made to order, allowing us to offer a level of personalisation that is difficult to achieve with mass-produced furniture.

10. How do I care for and clean my upholstery fabric?

Upholstery care varies depending on the fabric composition and construction.

We recommend following the manufacturer's care instructions for your selected fabric. Some fabrics are suitable for gentle spot cleaning, while others may require specialist upholstery cleaning.

For everyday maintenance, regular light vacuuming with a soft upholstery attachment can help remove dust and surface debris. Always test any cleaning method on an inconspicuous area first.

11. Will the fabric colour look exactly the same as it does on my screen?

Not necessarily. Screen settings, lighting and photography can influence how colours appear online.

We strongly recommend ordering a physical fabric sample before confirming your furniture order. Natural and artificial lighting can also affect how a fabric's colour and texture appear throughout the day.

12. Can I request a fabric that isn't currently shown in your Fabric Library?

Absolutely. While our Fabric Library is carefully curated, we work with leading Australian fabric houses, including Zepel, Warwick, Mokum, James Dunlop, No Chintz and Wortley, alongside our own exclusive fabric ranges.

If you're searching for something specific or have a particular fabric in mind, we'd love to hear from you. Our custom upholstery capabilities allow us to explore a broader range of fabrics, colours and textures to help bring your vision to life.

Simply get in touch to discuss your ideas. We'll be happy to explore the possibilities and confirm availability and suitability for your chosen piece of furniture.

13. How long does it take to make my upholstered furniture?

Each Lilly & Lolly upholstered furniture piece is made to order in our Sydney workshop.

Production timeframes vary depending on the furniture design, fabric availability and current workshop schedule. Generally the time-frame is 6-8 weeks turnaround but if you have a specific project in mind with a move in date, we are happy to work around your timing to meet your specific deadlines.

14. Can someone help me choose fabrics and design my furniture?
